Ygnacio Valley High School (YVHS) is a Concord, California public secondary school. It attracts students from Concord as well as Walnut Creek and Pleasant Hill, which are nearby. The school first opened its doors in 1962, and the first graduating senior class was in 1964.
Originally intended as a temporary building, the school now has more than 1,500 students enrolled in grades 9 through 12.
As Northgate High School opened nearby in 1974, YVHS lost about half of its student population. The Mount Diablo Unified School District is home to the school.
Since March 22, 2017, Ygnacio Valley High School has become an IB World School. The International Baccalaureate program is offered at this academy, which is the only one in the Mount Diablo Unified School District. Spanish B, Mathematics, and History are only a few of the subjects available.
Spanish and English Honors, as well as AP World History, are among the AP/Honors courses offered at Ygnacio Valley High School.
Inside California, Ygnacio Valley High is rated 1,275-1,675th. Advanced Placement® coursework and tests are available for students. Ygnacio Valley High has a 14 percent AP® membership record.
A total of 91 percent of students are from a minority group, and 79 percent of students are economically deprived. The Mt. Diablo Unified School District has 12 high schools, including Ygnacio Valley High.
The Clayton Valley High School Eagles have been one of the school’s biggest sporting competitors since 1964.
Before the schools were redistricted to avoid continuing vengeful stunts that were hindering good sportsmanship in the early 2000s, the biggest competitor was the College Park Falcons. YVHS also has a minor rivalry (as well as a property line) with De La Salle High School, which is located nearby.
On September 16, 2006, the first varsity Warrior football game played on the YVHS campus in 38 years took place. In August 2005, YVHS broke ground on a new running track as well as an all-weather turf football and soccer field.
Owing to bad playing conditions, condemned bleachers, and a lack of lighting, most football home games were played at Mount Diablo High School or Diablo Valley College prior to the construction of the current field.
