Shell Ridge Open Space is a great place to hike if you are looking for an escape from the city. There are loads of cool trails that range in difficulty, perfect for all levels. You can take your dog with you on some of the trails!

Shell Ridge Open Space has doggy-friendly hiking options and they’re pretty gorgeous too. The views of San Francisco Bay and Mount Tamalpais make it worth the hike up there.  The trail also provides access to many other trails for scenic hikes.

Hikers can enjoy an easy, flat loop that follows Shell Ridge Road around the ridge or take on more challenging routes with steep inclines and declines. You’ll find both paved paths and dirt paths at Shell Ridge Open Space so you can hike your preferred surface type.

Shell Ridge Open Space is open every day from sunrise to sunset, with various exceptions on holidays or when weather conditions call for the closure of specific trails. There are pit toilets at most trailheads but no water fountains so make sure to bring your own!

Parking fees apply on weekends, holidays, and some weekdays, so be sure to check these before you head out. If you want a quick peek at the beautiful view without doing all the hard work, take a gander through one of two overlooks. These are both wheelchair accessible and offer stunning views. You can also opt for a more strenuous hike to Borges Ranch or Howe Homestead Park where you’ll be rewarded with beautiful panoramas of the Bay Area.
